The four container terminals at the Tanger Med port complex handled 11,106,164 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) in 2025, up 8.4% from 2024.
This increase is mainly due to the commissioning of the latest extension of Terminal TC4 operated by APM Terminals, according to a press release from the Tanger Med Port Authority (TMPA).
Regarding TIR truck traffic, it stood at 535,203 units in 2025, up 3.6% compared to 2024, the same source notes, specifying that this momentum is mainly driven by exports of industrial products (+4.8%) and agri-food products (+4.3%), confirming the port’s strategic role in supporting national exports.
Passenger traffic reached 3,220,422 passengers and 895,341 cars in 2025, an increase of 5.7% and 5% respectively compared to the previous year.
The press release states that the Marhaba campaign took place under optimal conditions, thanks to the operational measures put in place, in particular the widespread use of fixed tickets, now applied starting 2025, noting that this measure made it possible to regulate flows according to the actual capacity of the fleet and ensure a smoother crossing.
Solid bulk traffic, meanwhile, stood at 522,493 tons in 2025, down 11% from 2024, mainly due to the shift in grain imports compared to the previous year.
Conversely, liquid bulk traffic showed sustained momentum, totaling 8,641,481 tons, an increase of 13% year-on-year.
In addition, the port complex’s two vehicle terminals handled 526,862 vehicles in 2025, down 12% compared to 2024, the press release points out, adding that this traffic includes 327,569 vehicles exported by the Renault factories in Melloussa and SOMACA (Casablanca), 126,874 vehicles exported by the Stellantis plant in Kenitra, and 39,751 vehicles in transshipment.
This change is mainly due to production adjustments in line with demand, as well as the reconfiguration of flows on international automotive markets.
Across all activities, the Tanger Med port complex handled 161 million tons of cargo in 2025, up 13.3% compared to 2024.
In terms of maritime stopovers, the port recorded 16,686 calls in 2025, down 4.5% compared to 2024, TMPA says, pointing out that this decline is mainly due to developments in the RoPax segment, where some ships were replaced with larger capacity units carrying more passengers and freight.
The port also welcomed 1,319 mega-ships over 290 meters long, up 8.4% from the previous year, thanks to measures implemented to optimize port calls, improve operational flow, and enhance the quality of service offered to shipowners.
The 2025 results reflect an entire port ecosystem’s commitment, teams’ operational performance, and infrastructure’s efficiency, TMPA says, emphasizing that they enshrine the leadership of the Tanger Med port complex on the Mediterranean and African scene, serving national and international logistics chains.
