Morocco’s citrus sector is poised for a slight rebound in the 2025/26 marketing year, with tangerine and mandarin production projected to reach 1.15 million metric tons, marking a 4% increase from the previous season.

According to FreshPlaza, the improvement is largely attributed to favorable weather during the growing period and the natural cycle of the trees, which boosted fruit yields.

Orange production is expected to rise by 1% to 970,000 metric tons, while lemon and lime output is forecast at 48,000 metric tons, a 6% increase.

Although the overall volumes remain below the peak recorded in 2018/19, they sit slightly above the five-year average.

The tangerine and mandarin export campaign started about two weeks later than usual, due to slower fruit maturation and size development.

Nevertheless, exports are set to increase moderately, with shipments anticipated to reach 550,000 metric tons, up 2% from last year.

Orange exports are expected to remain steady at around 85,000 metric tons, while lemon and lime exports are projected at 10,000 metric tons, consistent with previous seasons.

Support from the government continues to play a role in the sector’s performance.

This year’s report by the Moroccan Agricultural Development Fund (FDA) shows ongoing incentive measures designed to boost citrus exports and encourage investment in packing and processing facilities.

These efforts reinforce Morocco’s position in the international citrus market.

As Morocco’s citrus sector grows, the country is also making inroads into new markets. In 2024/25, exports of mandarins and clementines to Germany alone reached 8,200 tons, generating MAD 134 million ($12.1 million), a 60% increase over the previous record and the first time Moroccan citrus exports to Germany surpassed $10 million.
