Morocco, host country of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, is establishing itself as a driving force in African football, supported by world-class training policies and infrastructure, according to TV5.

In a program titled “Morocco: 30 Days Before AFCON”, the French media outlet highlights that “the Kingdom is already the locomotive of Africa in terms of infrastructure, with many African teams playing or holding training camps there.”

The rise of Moroccan football is “the result of local training policies, but also the scouting of young dual nationals to build cohesive groups of players,” notes the channel’s sports consultant, Hervé Kouamou.

According to him, Morocco is among the countries on the continent that have succeeded best in this area, noting that the U20 national team crowned world champions in Chile is a mix of locally trained players and talents identified abroad.

Pointing out that Rabat has chosen sport as a tool of soft power, Kouamou said it is “a way of communicating with the world and with Africa through sports.” Undoubtedly, he added, the policy of hosting major events is bearing fruit, as the Kingdom is also preparing to co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal.

For this edition of AFCON (December 21-January 18), TV5 notes that it will be the first time six cities will host the 24 teams, divided into six groups, across nine stadiums that have been fully renovated or entirely rebuilt, such as the Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.

Kouamou added that AFCON, which will coincide with the end-of-year festivities, will take on the dimension of a major sporting and celebratory event.
