The three African countries, non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, commonly known as the “A3”- namely the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia, and Liberia- hailed, on Wednesday in New York, the organization by Morocco of the Roundtable of Partners of the Central African Republic (CAR) in Casablanca, held last September, with the aim of mobilizing funds to implement the Central African Republic’s 2024-2028 National Development Plan.
“This initiative not only supported the efforts of MINUSCA, but also contributed to mobilizing funds for the Central African Republic’s National Development Plan (2024-2028),” said the Deputy Permanent Representative of the DRC, Jocelyne Lukundula, in a statement given on behalf of the three African countries during a Security Council briefing on the situation in this African country.
She emphasized that the three African members of the Security Council encourage rigorous follow-up to the outcomes of this roundtable to ensure that commitments translate into concrete support for the peace-building priorities defined by the Central African government.
At this meeting, Ambassador Omar Hilale, Permanent Representative of Morocco to the UN, at the invitation of the British Presidency of the Security Council for February, briefed the UN body, in his capacity as chairperson of the Central African Republic Configuration of the Peace-building Commission (PBC), on progress made in peace-building efforts in the African country.
In this context, DRC’s Deputy Permanent Representative, on behalf of the African countries in the Council, commended Ambassador Hilale for his continued support of these efforts in the Central African Republic.
This meeting was also held in the presence of the Permanent Representative of the Central African Republic to the United Nations, Ambassador Marius Nzessioué, who expressed his country’s gratitude to the Kingdom of Morocco, through Mr. Omar Hilale, president of the Peace-building Commission and President of the Central African Republic Configuration within the said Commission, considering him as “a tireless advocate of Central African resilience”.
