Throne Day : Royal Pardon for 19,673 People

On the occasion of the Throne Day, His Majesty King Mohammed VI has granted his pardon to 2,415 people sentenced by different Moroccan courts, some in detention and others at large, sentenced by the different courts of the Kingdom, and, exceptionally, to 17,258 convicts, selected according to specific criteria to make this operation a humanitarian initiative illustrating the High Royal Solicitude for this category, according to a statement from the Ministry of Justice.

Here follows the full statement :

“On the occasion of the Throne Day for the year 1447 H-2025 G, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God perpetuate His glory, kindly granted His Pardon to a group of individuals convicted by various courts throughout the Kingdom. These individuals number 2,415 and are as follows:

*The detained beneficiaries of the Royal Pardon are 2,239 and are divided into :

– 16 inmates who benefited from pardon over their remaining prison terms.

– 2,218 prisoners who had their prison terms reduced.

– 05 inmates who had their prison sentences commuted from life imprisonment to fixed prison terms.

* The beneficiaries of the Royal Pardon currently at liberty have numbered 176 people and are divided as follows:

– 40 people have benefited from pardon over their prison terms or its remainder.

– 12 people have benefited from pardon over their prison terms while their fines were maintained.

– 111 people had their fines annulled.

– 12 people had their prison terms and fines annulled

– 1 person had both their fines annulled and their prison sentence remainder pardoned.

In addition, His Majesty the King, may God assist him, has seized this glorious opportunity to extend the scope of beneficiaries of Royal Grace, on an exceptional basis, to a group of convicts selected according to specific standards and criteria, making it a humanitarian initiative that illustrates the Royal Royal Solicitude towards this category.

These are divided as follows:

– 17,121 inmates had the remainder of their prison terms and fines remissioned.

– 114 inmates had their life sentences commuted to fixed-term sentences.

– 23 prisoners had their death sentences commuted to life imprisonment.

Thus, the total number of beneficiaries of this opportunity will amount to 19,673.
