HM King Mohammed VI’s Throne Day speech highlights the urge need to take bold and innovative measures to prevent water scarcity, said Khalid Boudali, President of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) of the African Union.

The Royal speech calls clearly and firmly for a general mobilization of all segments of society: citizens, political players, industry, sectoral administrations and civil society, he told MAP.

This warning resonates as a call for collective action to establish a culture of reasoned and sustainable water management, Boudali noted.

He pointed out that the Royal Vision also emphasizes the importance of technological innovation and the modernization of water infrastructure, noting that seawater desalination plants, powered by renewable energies, offer a promising solution.

Projects such as the Casablanca seawater desalination plant, the largest in Africa, illustrates this commitment to sustainable and ecological water production, explained the ECOSOCC-AU President.

The leadership of His Majesty the King, through His clear guidelines and strategic vision, embodies Morocco’s commitment to meeting these challenges, he said, adding that the implementation of the National Program for Drinking Water Supply and Irrigation 2020-2027, with its substantial investments and technological innovations, is a testimony to this commitment.
