U.S. Ambassador to Rabat Richard Duke Buchan III reiterated on Tuesday in Marrakech his country’s support for the Moroccan autonomy plan as a “path to resolving” this regional dispute and to “prosperity.”

“The United States supports the Moroccan autonomy plan as a path to resolution and prosperity,” the U.S. diplomat stated at the opening of GITEX Africa Morocco 2026.

“American investors are contacting our embassy and consulate non-stop, ready to invest in the Sahara,” he added, noting that the United States and American companies “are keen to stand with Morocco and help fulfill His Majesty the King’s vision for every region of the Kingdom.”

The U.S. ambassador also noted that “the economic opportunity in the Moroccan Sahara is unlimited, and American companies are here to make that opportunity a reality.”
