Morocco, represented by Ambassador El Hassane Zahid, was re-elected on Friday in New York as a member of the United Nations’ International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) for a new four-year term starting January 1, 2025, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates.

This re-election signals the UN member states’ recognition of and confidence in Morocco’s enduring commitment to multilateralism. Morocco, through this renewed mandate, underscores its role as a reliable partner in advancing international cooperation and dialogue within the UN framework.

The achievement reflects the Kingdom’s influence in promoting high standards of human resources management within the UN system and more broadly in global governance.

Morocco’s engagement with international governance institutions underlines its ambition, guided by the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to champion universal principles while pursuing policies that advance sustainable development, human resources, and the consolidation of global peace and security.

Ambassador Zahid, an expert at the Policy Center for the New South and an ICSC member since 1997, previously served as Morocco’s Ambassador to Thailand, with concurrent accreditation to Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam from 2003 to 2010.

The ICSC is a vital UN entity comprising independent experts elected by the UN General Assembly, tasked with regulating the service conditions of staff within the UN common system and upholding high standards within the international civil service.
