under the enlightened leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, has become a model for development in Africa thanks to major investments, President of the African Parliamentarians’ Network on Development Evaluation (APNODE), Jérémie Adomahou, said on Thursday in Laayoune.
Following a visit to the city’s socioeconomic and educational projects, Adomahou said African countries should draw inspiration from Morocco’s development model, praising the Kingdom’s experience and the momentum it brings to the continent.
The APNODE president also highlighted Morocco’s leading role in South-South cooperation in general and with the African continent in particular.
On the sidelines of APNODE’s 10th annual general assembly, scheduled for Friday in Laayoune, Adomahou told MAP that Morocco has become an essential hub for international gatherings thanks to its active diplomacy and its effective sharing of experiences.
He also noted that the Kingdom is among the pioneers in evaluating public policy, adding that APNODE works to strengthen and institutionalize this practice among its member countries.
For his part, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Union of the Comoros, Abdou Moustadroine, told reporters that the visit offered an opportunity to see firsthand the remarkable progress achieved in the southern provinces thanks to HM the King’s farsighted vision, both in the quality of infrastructure and the pace of development.
President of the Senate of Eswatini, Lindiwe Dlamini, seized the opportunity to praise HM the King’s visionary leadership in advancing the Kingdom’s development, welcoming UN Security Council Resolution 2797 on the Sahara.
Former Senegalese minister Haoua Dia Thiam also welcomed the level of development reached in the region in key sectors such as electricity production, seawater desalination and phosphate extraction.
The APNODE parliamentary delegation also visited several major projects, completed or underway, to learn about the quality of educational, socioeconomic and health infrastructure included in the new development model for the southern provinces.
Among the projects visited were the university hospital center, the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, the City of Trades and Skills, as well as the phosphate port and the seawater desalination plant.
During the visit, the delegation was accompanied by the Speaker of Morocco’s House of Councillors, the wali of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region, governor of Laayoune province, the president of the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra Regional Council and the president of the municipality.
