Morocco’s Interior Ministry said it has raised the national level of preparedness to address the potential impact of severe weather expected during the 2025–2026 winter season, acting on instructions from King Mohammed VI.
In a statement, the ministry said regional governors and provincial administrators have been instructed to strengthen on-the-ground monitoring of weather developments and ensure close coordination among all relevant authorities and government sectors. The measures aim to protect residents and limit possible damage linked to harsh weather conditions.
The ministry said a central command and monitoring center has been activated at the Interior Ministry, alongside the establishment and activation of provincial monitoring committees, as part of the national plan to mitigate the effects of cold waves during the current winter season.
According to the statement, the plan has been updated with new field data, expanded in scope and adapted to better target interventions, improving their effectiveness in vulnerable areas.
The plan targets residents in remote communities across 28 provinces and prefectures, particularly those living in rural villages exposed to winter risks. Authorities said the objective is to support affected populations through continuous field monitoring that takes into account local conditions and the specific risks each area may face.
As part of the heightened mobilization, the Interior Ministry said it has strengthened operational readiness through its central and territorial services, in coordination with other sectors.
Measures include continuous monitoring of conditions on the ground, ensuring regular supplies of basic goods and heating materials, and mobilizing logistical equipment, with machinery pre-positioned near roads at risk of closure to allow rapid response if access is cut off.
The ministry said these measures also include the distribution of food aid, blankets and firewood to targeted populations, emergency assistance for people in critical situations, efforts to maintain road and telecommunications links, and the provision of animal feed to protect livestock in affected areas.
The Interior Ministry reaffirmed the full mobilization of public authorities in line with the king’s instructions, stressing its commitment to reducing hardship, safeguarding lives and property, and addressing challenges posed by weather disruptions during the winter season.
The ministry urged residents, particularly those in vulnerable areas, to remain vigilant, follow safety guidance issued by authorities, avoid unnecessary risks, exercise caution while traveling, and refrain from using roads and routes threatened by flooding or snow-related closures.
