Morocco’s ambassador to Paraguay, Badreddine Abdelmoumni, has stated that the Kingdom, in its search for a solution to the artificial dispute over its Sahara, has chosen “the path of regional integration, unity and shared development.”
Following the adoption by the UN Security Council of Resolution 2797, which enshrines the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its Sahara, “this moment marks the beginning of a new era of cooperation and hope for the peoples of the Maghreb,” the Moroccan diplomat added in an interview with the Paraguayan news agency IP.
In this context, Abdelmoumni highlighted the growing support of the international community for Morocco’s autonomy plan, reaffirming the Kingdom’s commitment to a political, pragmatic and lasting solution.
He also welcomed the reaffirmation by Paraguayan Foreign Minister Rubén Ramírez of the recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara, as well as Asunción’s support for the autonomy plan.
The diplomat also recalled that the recent years have witnessed growing international support for Morocco’s autonomy plan, notably from the US, France, Spain, Germany and more recently the UK, backed by the Security Council resolution adopted on October 31, 2025.
Emphasizing the regional significance of this major political moment, Abdelmoumni recalled the call made by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to open a sincere fraternal dialogue with Algeria.
The Moroccan diplomat welcomed the announcement of the opening of a Paraguayan consulate in Dakhla, which will join more than 30 diplomatic representations established in the southern provinces, stressing that this is a strategic choice that reflects a clear understanding of the legitimacy and correctness of Morocco’s position.
