The United Nations Security Council resolution 2797 on the Moroccan Sahara strengthens the international recognition of Morocco’s standing as a regional and international power under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, said, on Monday, the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch.
Speaking during the monthly session dedicated to general policy at the House of Representatives, Akhannouch noted that the SC resolution on the Moroccan Sahara, whose date has been proclaimed by the Sovereign as a national day, enshrines not only the international recognition of Morocco’s territorial integrity, but, in its deeper sense, transcends the simple circumstantial vote on a just cause, to a vote that implicitly strengthens the international recognition of Morocco’s important status as a regional and international power under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him.
This resolution is the result of a clear strategic vision by the Kingdom and its active role in promoting peace, coexistence and the policy of outreach and tolerance at the regional and international levels, he noted, pointing out that these achievements are the fruit of 26 years of Royal Diplomacy recognized by the international community for its wisdom, credibility and loyalty to its principles.
The Sahara issue has moved from a phase of stagnation to dynamic management, reaching a stage of both internal and external change, he stressed, adding that this step paves the way for constructive dialogue and the search for a constructive consensus among all parties.
He noted that the strategic dimension of Royal Diplomacy is based on the principle that defending the national cause is not based solely on political discourse or trust in international institutions, but rather on continuous action on diverse and complementary fronts.
In addition to official and parallel diplomacy advocacy, Akhannouch emphasized the importance of economic and social development and related national projects in combating social insecurity, noting that the Kingdom “is reaping the fruits of His Majesty the King’s efforts, wisdom and foresight at all levels, supported by popular mobilization and a clear national consensus.”
Referring to “Aid Al Wahda,” (Unity Day) proclaimed by the Sovereign as a national holiday on October 31 each year, the head of government emphasized that this date “will immortalize a small part of the journey of His Majesty the King, an inspiring leader who, through His courageous patriotic positions, has made our country a model of stability, progress and defense of sovereignty.”
The celebration of this national day symbolizes the unity of the Moroccan people with all its vital forces and its mobilization behind the wise leadership of His Majesty the King, Akhannouch noted, adding that it is “a moment of national consensus that gives full meaning to the policy of reaching out to neighbors with a view to building a strong and prosperous Greater Maghreb and turning the page on the past.”
The head of government also praised the strong political and electoral participation of the inhabitants of the southern provinces, which illustrates their unwavering attachment to the territorial integrity of the Kingdom and their positive contribution to the process of consolidating advanced regionalization and implementing the Development Model.
“This responsible involvement of the populations of the southern provinces in the management of their affairs strengthens national unity and clearly shows that these provinces fully enjoy their constitutional, political, and civil rights,” he said.
