The adoption of UN Security Council of the resolution 2797 on the issue of Moroccan Sahara is a victory for the relevant diplomacy of Morocco, under the impetus of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, chairman and founder of the Crans Montana Forum Jean-Paul Carteron.
This resolution reflects “the surge of Moroccan diplomacy’s influence and credibility,” Carteron told MAP.
To him, the UN resolution “is not so much a revolution, as the Sahara has always been Moroccan. It is rather a confirmation of the Moroccanness of the Sahara. However, this is an extremely important advance in the global credibility of Morocco’s entire foreign policy, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI”.
“Morocco holds indisputable historical rights over the Sahara,” he added, noting that the UN resolution is a “step forward for an impressive Moroccan diplomacy.”
Recalling the outreached hand HM the King extended to Algeria, Carteron spoke of an ongoing commitment of the Sovereign to reviving the Maghreb Union, in the perspective of bringing about significant change in the region at the benefit of local populations and their aspirations.
In today’s world, “Morocco remains a beacon of hope and tireless proposals of harmony and peace,” he affirmed.
With regards to the autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty, enshrined by the UNSC as only framework for resolving the artificial conflict over the Sahara, Carteron noted that “Morocco has already demonstrated what it can do with the Southern provinces: a genuine miracle in terms of economic and social development.”
“All this has been made possible thanks to a clear-sighted Royal vision,” he said, adding that the Kingdom’s diplomatic action and development efforts are “an example for many other countries to consider.”
