The Deputy Speaker of the House of Councillors, Ahmed Akhchichine, held talks on Thursday in Rabat with the President of the Senegalese National Assembly, Malick Ndiaye, who is currently on a working visit to Morocco at the head of a parliamentary delegation.

The meeting provided an opportunity for a rich exchange of views on ways to strengthen parliamentary cooperation between the legislative institutions of the two countries, as well as to further promote these relations in various regional and international forums, thereby helping to consolidate the foundations of peace, security, and development on the African continent and internationally, according to a press release by the House of Councillors.

In this context, Akhchichine presented the strategic orientations of the new African policy adopted by the Kingdom of Morocco, whose foundations were laid and overseen by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, highlighting Morocco’s key role in promoting sustainable and inclusive development on the African continent.

Along the same lines, he also reviewed several pioneering Royal Initiatives, including the Atlantic Royal Initiative aimed at connecting Sahel countries to the Atlantic coast, as well as the Atlantic African States Process (AASP) and the Atlantic African Gas Pipeline.

For his part, Ndiaye reaffirmed Senegal’s unwavering support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, welcoming UN Security Council Resolution No. 2797, which reaffirmed the primacy, relevance, and credibility of the Moroccan Autonomy Initiative as the final solution to the artificial conflict surrounding the Moroccan Sahara.

During the meeting, both sides also exchanged views on a number of issues of common interest, particularly those related to strengthening parliamentary cooperation, as well as matters linked to the human and social relations that unite the peoples of the two brotherly countries.

This visit reflects the shared will to strengthen constructive dialogue and regular consultation between parliamentarians of both countries, Ndiaye noted, praising the exemplary nature of cooperation with the Kingdom of Morocco, which he considers a major economic, trade, cultural, and tourism partner of the Republic of Senegal, and expressing satisfaction with the level and quality of bilateral parliamentary cooperation.
