Upper House Deputy Speaker Meets with Mali’s High Council of Local Authorities President

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Councillors, Lahcen Haddad, met on Thursday in Rabat with the President of the High Council of Local Authorities of the Republic of Mali, Diakité Satigui Mamadou, who is on a working visit to the Kingdom.

The meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm the strength of the brotherly ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Mali, based on a shared historical and civilizational heritage, as well as on the firm commitment of both countries to strengthen and develop bilateral cooperation in various fields, in the interests of both brotherly peoples, the Upper House said in a press release.

Haddad highlighted the efforts made by the Kingdom, under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to support peace and development in Africa, noting that the Republic of Mali is a key player in the Royal Initiative aimed at facilitating access to the Atlantic Ocean for Sahel countries.

He also gave a presentation on the specific features of the Moroccan parliamentary experience, explaining that the House of Councillors includes members representing local authorities, professional chambers, and employees, who are elected for a six-year term. He also highlighted the institutional role of local councils in strengthening local governance and development.

For his part, Mamadou expressed his gratitude for Morocco’s continued support for his country, praising the strength of bilateral relations based on mutual respect and a shared desire to consolidate an advanced partnership, in accordance with the High Guidelines of the leaders of both countries.

He also expressed Mali’s willingness to draw on Morocco’s experience and learn more about the Kingdom’s political and institutional reforms, which have made it a model for the region and the continent.
