Upper House Official Holds Talks with Equatoguinean Council of Economic & Social Development President

Deputy Speaker of Morocco’s House of Councillors Lahcen Haddad held talks Monday in Rabat with President of the National Council for Economic and Social Development of Equatorial Guinea Marcelino Owono Edu, who is on a working visit to Morocco.

Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and parliamentary partnership between Morocco and Equatorial Guinea, as well as several issues of common interest in the economic, social, and development fields, according to a press release from the House.

Haddad highlighted the historic and fraternal ties between the two countries, emphasizing the special care Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, accords to developing and strengthening cooperation with this country. He also recalled the enshrining of the legal framework for bilateral partnership through a series of agreements covering the fields of agriculture, hydrocarbons, port management, and finance.

Additionally, Haddad praised the Republic of Equatorial Guinea’s continued support for the Kingdom’s territorial integrity, stressing the importance of bolstering strategic coordination between the two countries within multilateral fora, particularly the African Union and the United Nations.

For his part, Owono Edu lauded the strong bilateral relations and fraternal ties between the two countries, welcoming their strategic nature and the efforts made by Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, to reinforce cooperation with Equatorial Guinea in various fields (trade, defense, tourism, higher education, etc.).

In addition, he emphasized the need to develop mechanisms for cooperation and consultation between the House of Councillors and the CNDES and to continue to promote bilateral, regional, and international parliamentary cooperation in the interests of the two friendly peoples.
