Speaker of Morocco’s House of Councillors Mohamed Ould Errachid held a series of bilateral meetings with presidents of African senates, on the sidelines of the Conference of the Association of African Senates, hosted by the House on April 8-9.
Ould Errachid met with President of the Senate of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire Kandia Kamissouko Camara; Pro Tempore President of the Senate of the Republic of Liberia Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, President of the Senate of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea Teresa Efua Asangono; President of the Senate of the Gabonese Republic Huguette Yvonne Nyanna-Ekoume, and President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Eswatini Dlamini Lindiwe.
Meetings were also held with President of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino) Rolando Patricio González, according to a press release from the House.
Discussions focused on ways to bolster bilateral and multilateral parliamentary cooperation, intensify coordination and consultation on issues of common interest, as well as exchange experiences and best practices in the areas of legislation and oversight, and revitalize the role of parliamentary friendship groups in supporting development.
These talks further provided an opportunity to highlight the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening South-South cooperation, bolstering African parliamentary action, and expanding areas of partnership.
Dialogues also served to commend strong bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and these countries and their parliamentary bodies, and to reaffirm the shared commitment to elevating them to multidimensional strategic partnerships.
These meetings form part of the House of Councillors’ efforts to open up to its African and international environment, therefore reinforcing its presence within regional and international parliamentary fora and helps consolidate joint parliamentary action.
