The US Senate has officially confirmed Duke Buchan III as the new American ambassador to Morocco.

The Senate confirmed Buchan’s appointment on Tuesday.

US President Donald Trump appointed Duke Buchan III as the new US ambassador to Morocco in March.

“I am pleased to announce that Duke Buchan III will serve as the U.S. ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.

“Duke will play a key role as we strengthen peace, freedom, and prosperity for both our countries,” he added.

On July 29, Buchan emphasized his commitment to capitalize on the already flourishing bilateral ties between the two countries.

In his confirmation hearing, he talked about the importance of Morocco as a strategic country, noting that he is already fascinated by the opportunities that exist.

“If confirmed, my highest priority will be the safety and security of American citizens in Morocco,” the ambassador said, citing the highest number of Americans who travel to explore the country’s “beautiful landscape.”

Buchan also elevated the vital working relationship that the two countries have regards to trade and security.

He said that Morocco has been a key ally to the US, recalling military drills that Morocco hosts annually, including the African Lion editions – the largest military maneuvers in Africa.

“If confirmed, I will work to strengthen our long-standing security relationship as we confront common challenges, ” he said, describing Morocco as a model economic partner.

During his confirmation hearing, Buchan also recalled his country’s steadfast position on the Western Sahara, reiterating his country’s position in support of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces.

The new ambassador also hailed Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as the only viable basis for a just and lasting solution in Western Sahara.

Before his appointment to Morocco, he served in several domestic positions, including as the National Finance Chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC).

In the realm of his international career, Buchan served just north of Morocco from 2017 to 2021 as the US ambassador to Spain and the Principality of Andorra.

Buchan is the CEO of Hunter Global Investors, and during this tenure he traveled, lived,  and did business in over 50 countries, including Morocco, according to the US State Department.

“He is also actively involved in educational and philanthropic causes,” the same source said, noting that his diplomatic experience “makes him well qualified to serve as the next US Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco.”
