His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s Initiative to enable Atlantic Ocean access for Sahel States represents a major strategic turning point for Africa, said Peter Pham, a distinguished member of the American think tank The Atlantic Council, on Friday in Rabat.

Speaking during a panel organized as part of the 14th annual edition of the international conference “The Atlantic Dialogues” of the Policy Center for the New South (PCNS), Pham stressed that this Royal Initiative will help transform the dream of Atlantic integration into a shared vision and promote the emergence of a larger and more inclusive community.

“Throughout history, Morocco has always served as a gateway, a bridge between the Arab-Muslim world, Africa, Europe, and more recently, North and South America,” he continued, noting that the Royal Initiative will not only help ensure the stability of the Sahel region but also strengthen security and prosperity within the entire Atlantic African community.

By opening new horizons through trade and investment, the Royal Initiative fosters stability and food security in the Atlantic area, while offering significant economic opportunities to the countries of the region, he said.

For her part, the Executive Director of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, Nathalie Delapalme, noted that Africa is evolving in a world marked by uncertainty and shifting alliances.

In this regard, she underscored the importance of defending African interests in global forums, particularly on climate and access to energy, while calling for “moving forward together” to strengthen the continent’s weight and make its voice heard.

Placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this edition, running on December 11–13, is built on the previous one, which expanded its format into a multidisciplinary platform. It aims to analyze the multiple ongoing crises and propose reform pathways suited to contemporary realities.
