Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, highlighted, Tuesday in Washington, Morocco’s long term reform agenda under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, emphasizing the importance of public policies centered on job creation, particularly for young people.
Speaking at a conference entitled “Navigating Morocco’s path to growth and resilience” held at the Stimson Center, on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, Ms. Fettah highlighted the ongoing economic transformation in Morocco, citing in particular tax reforms, infrastructure modernization, ecological transition and the promotion of public-private partnerships.
In this regard, she stressed the imperative of maintaining the pace of reforms and development projects in the long run, while focusing on innovation and high value-added sectors in order to achieve a qualitative “leap frog” in terms of economic competitiveness.
The minister also emphasized the importance of public policies focused on job creation, particularly through reforms of education, as well as the training of skilled professionals to meet the needs of industrial sectors.
In addition, the official highlighted Morocco’s renewable energy strategy, which aims to increase the share of these energies to 52 % by 2030, noting that this sector benefits from significant international investment.
The objective, she noted, is both to ensure the country’s energy sovereignty while accelerating the transition to cleaner and more accessible energy.
“In this perspective, Morocco continues to accelerate the implementation of its major structural projects in support of sustainable and inclusive development”, Ms. Fettah said.
With regard to tourism, she said that this dynamic sector has experienced strong growth in recent years despite difficulties during the Covid-19 pandemic. This momentum, she noted, has led to the creation of numerous employment opportunities, particularly for young people.
Furthermore, Ms Fettah highlighted the strategic significance of the Royal Atlantic Initiative and the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project, which aims to enhance energy access across Africa while strengthening connections with European markets.
Regarding Morocco’s Southern Provinces, Ms. Fettah noted that the Moroccan Sahara region is currently undergoing major economic transformations, emphasizing that foreign investors are flocking to the region to take advantage of the enormous emerging opportunities, particularly in the renewable energy sectors.
Ms. Fettah heads the Moroccan delegation at the IMF and World Bank Group Annual Meetings, held in Washington DC through October 18.
