Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued a severe weather warning for multiple provinces, forecasting intense thunderstorms accompanied by hail and strong winds from Friday through Sunday.
According to the DGM, very heavy thunderstorms are expected to bring between 80 to 150 mm (3.1 to 5.9 inches) of rainfall in the provinces of Zagora, Tinghir, Errachidia, Ouarzazate, and Tata. This red-level alert will be in effect from Friday at 4:00 PM until Sunday at 11:00 PM.
Additionally, rainfall amounts between 60 to 90 mm (2.4 to 3.5 inches) are anticipated in Assa-Zag and Es-Semara on Saturday, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
Other regions will also be affected by these adverse weather conditions. Thunderstorms producing 30 to 60 mm (1.2 to 2.4 inches) of rainfall are forecast for the provinces of Figuig, Taroudant, Midelt, Azilal, and Al Haouz from Friday afternoon until Sunday night.
The provinces of Guelmim, Sidi Ifni, and Tiznit will experience similar conditions on Saturday, from 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM. The DGM has issued an orange-level vigilance alert for these areas.
