Outrage Erupts as Algeria Rejects Influencer Expelled by France

Former French officials, netizens, and activists have condemned Algeria’s refusal to accept the return of an Algerian influencer, who France expelled on Thursday.

French police arrested the influencer known as Doualemn on TikTok on Sunday in  Montpellier, after he shared a video that called for violence, specifically for the death of an anti-Algerian regime protestor.

The French Ministry of Interior confirmed that Algeria “banned the influencer from its territory.”

Algeria’s decision to not allow Doualemn to return has sparked outrage among French activists and citizens alike.

Gibert Collard, a former member of the European Parliament denounced Algeria’s rejection, calling on France to follow suit.

“The country rejected the influencer Doualemn and expelled them to Algeria. He is back in France. What are we waiting for to denounce all the agreements?” Collard said on X.

Deputy of the French National Assembly, Eric Ciotti also condemned Algeir’s move, saying France “cannot accept being humiliated like this by Algeria.”

“The only response is the immediate revocation of the 1968 agreements and to no longer welcome a single Algerian in France,” Ciotti said.

Earlier this month, French authorities arrested three Algerian TikTok influencers for allegedly giving death threats in their content, and called for the arrest of three others.

The European country launched a campaign to crack down on influencers who incite hatred either through images, videos, or texts, as a part of their overall efforts to combat extremism online.
