Thirty two people died and 3,134 others were injured, 150 of them seriously, in the 2,280 road accidents that occurred in urban areas on August 4-10, according to the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN).
These accidents were mainly due to drivers’ inattention, failure to give priority, speeding, pedestrians’ inadvertence, failure to keep a safe distance, loss of vehicle control, changing direction without signaling, unauthorized changes of direction, failure to respect stop signs, driving in the wrong direction, driving in the left lane, failure to obey red lights, drunk driving, and improper passing, DGSN pointed out in a press release.
With regard to the control and repression of traffic offences, the security services drew up 46,431 tickets and 6,217 reports that were submitted to the public prosecutor’s office, while 40,214 fines were paid for a total amount of MAD 8.4 million, the same source added, noting that 5,122 vehicles were impounded, while 6,217 documents were withdrawn and 319 vehicles immobilized.
