Through its recent renovation, the Grand Stade de Tanger stands out as a showcase of Morocco’s “excellence, know-how, and expertise” in the design and management of sports infrastructure, the Spanish newspaper “The Objective” wrote on Wednesday.
The finished installation of this iconic venue’s new roof, covering an area of 55,000 m², in just 69 days, represents a world record and demonstrates the high level of technical expertise achieved by Morocco in this field, the media outlet emphasizes.
Built with remarkable precision, the new roof was designed to adapt perfectly to the region’s climatic conditions, while ensuring optimal natural light, the publication says, adding that the Grand Stade de Tanger is now among the most modern sports venues worldwide.
For the Spanish daily, this project is part of the Kingdom’s vast national program to modernize sports infrastructure in anticipation of hosting major international events, notably the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 World Cup.
“The Objective” also points out that the Tangier stadium has undergone other renovations, citing increase in its capacity to 75,000 spectators, removal of the athletics track, and installation of hybrid turf up to international standards.
The stadium is now equipped with a modern lighting system that meets FIFA requirements for international broadcasts, as well as a backup power supply system that ensures continuity of operations in the event of a power failure, the publication notes, praising this equipment as one of the most cutting-edge technologies on the market today.
