Morocco’s Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor, and Panama’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Arturo Hoyos Boyd, signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday to enhance bilateral cooperation.
Concluded as part of the first session of political consultations between both countries, the MoU aims to promote tourism exchanges through the sharing of best practices and expertise in tourism.
It also allows for new opportunities to promote touristic destinations, sustainable development, and encourage tourism investment, with Panama serving as a gateway to the Americas and Morocco as a crossroads between Europe and Africa.
During this meeting, Boyd praised Morocco’s tourism offering, noting that his country welcomed up to 3 million tourists last year. Due to its air connectivity, with around 20 million passengers in transit via the national airline, Copa Airlines, the country boasts a strategic positioning.
He expressed Panama’s interest in establishing a direct air link between the two capitals, which would help strengthen bilateral tourism and economic flows.
For her part, Ammor highlighted the performance of the Moroccan tourism sector, recalling that Morocco inaugurated the first UN Tourism Innovation Office for Africa last month, intended to become a continental hub for innovation and digital leadership in the sector.
The minister stressed that Morocco and Panama share similarities in their geographical and cultural positioning, calling for stronger direct air connectivity between both countries as a lever to develop the tourism partnership.
