Morocco plays “a strategic and exemplary role both in Africa and among its European neighbors” thanks to its ambitious sustainable development policy, said Abdullah Bin Ali Al-Amri, president of the Environment Authority of the Sultanate of Oman, on the sidelines of COP30 in Belém, in the Brazilian Amazon.
According to Al-Amri, president of the seventh session of the UN Environment Assembly, the Kingdom “holds considerable potential to successfully transition to wind and solar energy” and is working to become “a strategic platform for exporting clean energy to its neighbors, particularly Europe.”
“This leadership is encouraging many African and European countries to follow suit,” the Omani official observed in an interview with MAP-Brazil, deeming this policy as “a major green economic opportunity.”
For Al-Amri, “the balance in Morocco’s foreign policy, combined with its resolute vision of sustainable development, makes it a respected and admired country in the Arab world, Africa, and Europe,” saying he is “proud of the Kingdom’s economic, social, and environmental achievements.”
With regard to bilateral cooperation, the president of the Oman Environment Authority highlighted the depth of relations between Rabat and Muscat at all levels.
“Morocco and the Sultanate of Oman represent the two wings of the Arab world: the East and the West,” he said. This natural proximity, he added, is reflected in the steadfast coordination between the Environment Authority of the Sultanate of Oman and Morocco’s Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development in various international fora to contribute both to global efforts combatting climate change and to safeguard stability and prosperity of both countries.
Referring to the multilateral dimension, Al-Amri noted that Oman’s presidency of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7), following Morocco’s, illustrates the complementarity between the two countries. “Morocco represented Africa and Oman represented Asia-Pacific, a wonderful coincidence reflecting the convergence of our visions,” he concluded.
