Morocco’s women’s national team drew 1-1 with Burkina Faso in an international friendly at the Grand Stadium in Marrakech on Friday evening.

The match served as preparation for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) that Morocco will host next year. Coach Jorge Vilda Rodriguez had put his squad through final preparations on Thursday, reviewing technical and tactical aspects with a complete roster.

Morocco took the lead in first-half stoppage time through Ibtissam Jraidi’s goal in the 45+1 minute. The home side maintained their advantage until the second half, when Burkina Faso equalized through Adèle Kabré in the 58th minute.

The fixture marked another chapter in the rivalry between the two teams. They previously met at the 2022 WAFCON in Morocco, where the Atlas Lionesses secured a 1-0 victory in the group stage thanks to captain Ghizlane Chebbak’s 29th-minute strike in Rabat.

Chebbak recently claimed the African Women’s Ballon d’Or on November 19, adding individual recognition to her growing profile. The Al-Hilal midfielder will be looking to build on this achievement in upcoming matches.

Morocco enters this international window following mixed results in October. The team suffered a 2-1 defeat to Scotland before bouncing back with a convincing 3-0 victory over Haiti, both matches played in Casablanca.

Burkina Faso qualified for the upcoming WAFCON after eliminating Burundi 4-1 on aggregate and Togo 3-0 on aggregate in the qualification playoffs. The West African side used this friendly to fine-tune their preparations for the continental tournament.

Morocco will continue their preparation camp with a second friendly against South Africa scheduled for early next week. The encounter will provide another opportunity for Vilda Rodriguez to assess his squad ahead of the home WAFCON tournament.
