Thanks to the enlightened vision of the two Heads of State, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Majesty King Felipe VI, the strategic partnership between Morocco and Spain has gained clarity and sustainability, Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch said on Thursday in Madrid at the opening of the Morocco-Spain High-Level Meeting.

This meeting proves that relations between the two countries are now based on explicit political parameters, stable dialogue and a common vision “that we are building together with a high sense of responsibility,” Akhannouch said, noting that this development is the result of a reorganization and clarification of bilateral cooperation.

“Our consultations have intensified at an unprecedented pace, reflecting our shared willingness to ensure the continuity and sustainability of our action. We have also succeeded in creating a stable and predictable political environment ideal for a joint approach to regional transformations and the development of long-term strategies,” he said.

For the Head of Government, this new high-level meeting falls fully in line with the political momentum generated by the two Heads of State, whose constant commitment and deep ties have helped to anchor the Morocco-Spain partnership in a spirit of durability and clarity, paving the way for enhanced and structured cooperation.

Akhannouch recalled that between the previous meeting and this one, “an important step has been taken,” as the ambitions expressed in 2022 have been met through an operational framework for action, supported by regular political dialogue and ongoing coordination between the two governments.

Referring to the strategic convergence between Rabat and Madrid on the Moroccan Sahara, he highlighted the clarity and consistency of Spain’s position, in line with UN Security Council resolutions. “This position is a key element of trust and a structuring factor for regional stability in Africa, the Mediterranean, and the Atlantic,” he stressed.

He also highlighted the strength of economic ties, noting that Spain remains Morocco’s leading trading partner for the tenth consecutive year.

Addressing the complexity of the international situation, marked by geopolitical tensions and economic and energy uncertainties, Akhannouch emphasized that political consistency and advanced coordination between the two countries bolster their ability to manage rapid changes and preserve their common interests.

“Our meeting comes at a pivotal moment, requiring states to demonstrate strong insight, initiative, and foresight in the face of geopolitical tensions, economic pressures, energy uncertainties, and technological changes,” he stressed.

The Head of Government then spotlighted the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI for Atlantic Africa, based on integration and interconnection, noting that Spain naturally occupies a special position in this strategic project.

The joint organization of the 2030 World Cup by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal, he continued, is an powerful symbol of the convergence and capacity of the three countries to carry out an ambitious global project focused on youth and based on coordination and trust.

Akhannouch also spoke of the depth of human relations between the two countries, with nearly one million Moroccans residing in Spain and an active Spanish community in Morocco, reflecting the close intertwining of economic, social, and cultural spheres.

On the issue of migration, the Head of Government reiterated the comprehensive and balanced approach adopted by both countries, based on responsible cooperation with countries of origin and transit, and marked by effective joint action in the fight against irregular migration and human trafficking networks.
