The death toll from the devastating flash floods that hit the city of Safi on Sunday has risen to 37 as of Monday morning, according to authorities.
Authorities added that 14 injured people are currently receiving treatment at Mohammed V Hospital in Safi. Two of them are in intensive care.
Meanwhile, dozens of others were discharged after receiving necessary medical care.
Authorities said that heavy rainfall on Sunday evening led to strong and unexpected flooding, resulting in significant human losses.
Videos shared online show harrowing scenes of streets completely covered in water. Cars appear almost floating, while residents are seen struggling to move through strong currents and trying to rescue others.
Local officials said that rescue and emergency operations are still ongoing. Public authorities, civil protection services, security forces, and other teams continue to carry out search, rescue, and assistance efforts in affected areas, while providing support to impacted residents.
