King Mohammed VI Exchanges New Year Greetings with World Leaders

King Mohammed VI exchanged New Year greetings with leaders of several countries on the occasion of the start of 2026.

The messages conveyed King Mohammed VI’s warm wishes and sincere hopes for good health, happiness, and prosperity to heads of state and government around the world.

The King also received messages and greeting cards from these leaders and from senior international figures. They expressed their best wishes to the monarch for good health and happiness, and for continued progress and prosperity for the Moroccan people under his leadership.

Among the leaders who exchanged New Year greetings with the King are Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President of the UAE.

Messages also came from Jordan King Abdullah II and Queen Rania, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman, and Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of Kuwait.

European leaders included King Felipe VI of Spain and Queen Letizia, King Frederik X of Denmark, President Sergio Mattarella of Italy, President Alar Karis of Estonia, and Hungarian President Tamás Sulyok, as well as Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

From Asia, greetings were exchanged with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedow, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

Messages also came from leaders in Africa and Latin America, including Ecuador, Comoros, Djibouti, and Sierra Leone.

Moroccans welcomed the New Year in different ways. In several cities, people gathered with family and friends to mark the occasion, while others chose to spend the evening quietly at home. Many families bought cakes and sweets, which is a common tradition to celebrate the start of a new year.

Fireworks lit up the sky at midnight in some areas, especially in major cities. In addition, cafes and restaurants saw increased activity.
