FIFA has commended Morocco’s exceptional football year and progress, citing achievements across all levels, including the senior team, the U-20 squad, the Arab Cup, women’s football, and more.
In a review concluding 2025, the global football organization described 2025 as a “year to remember for Morocco.”
The football body recapped Morocco’s U20 triumph, positioning itself as the world champion as part of the World Cup in Chile.
“Victory at youth level is not just about winning silverware, but also laying the foundations for the senior team in years to come,” FIFA wrote.
It quoted Mohamed Ouahbi, the coach for the U20 emphasized that the progress is the result of several years of hard work and dedication.
“Our king, His Majesty Mohammed VI, has invested heavily in football in order to modernise infrastructure throughout the country,” he told FIFA.
The football global body also recalled the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, a competition that Morocco hosted and will continue to host until 2029.
“Despite being knocked out of the competition, Anwar Mghinia’s girls gained invaluable experience and learned valuable lessons from these high-level matches,” FIFA wrote. FIFA also recalled Morocco’s U17 men’s team and their experience in the World Cup in Qatar, where they ran a magical campaign to qualify to the quarter finals. Brazil ended their journey, but the players gained experience as well as applause for their determination and high spirit.
In regards to women’s football, the football organization also highlighted Morocco’s futsal triumphs and experiences.
“The Moroccan women made their mark indoors at the inaugural FIA Futsal Women’s World Cup,” FIFA said.
Then comes the Arab Cup, where Morocco’s men’s team triumphed and returned with a shining trophy after a thrilling experience.
“The Atlas Lions remained unbeaten throughout the tournament,” FIFA wrote.
It recalled their historic and dramatic final against Jordan, where they won the Arab Cup.
FIFA concluded its review, recalling Morocco’s senior team victories, sealing their spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup that will take place in Canada, the US, and Mexico.
“The nation’s senior team produced a flawless display in the African qualifiers, winning all eight of their games and only conceding two goals on their way to securing their third consecutive appearance at the FIFA World Cup,” FIFA said.
FIFA’s review did not end before shedding light on one of the superstars of the national team, namely Achraf Hakimi.
For the football body, Hakimi is more than just a captain as he is establishing himself as the shining star of Moroccan football.
Hakimi continues to lead the way to more victories as he is starring with the Atlas Lions as part of the AFCON. Hakimi did not play in the first two matches in the largest tournament in Africa, but he made his debut in the match against Zambia on Monday after his recovery from an injury he sustained during a game with PSG.
