The second Conference of Transport Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OICCTM) opened on Thursday in Istanbul, with Morocco taking part in the proceedings.
The Kingdom is represented at this event, held under the theme “Reinforcing transport connectivity to deepen the bonds of brotherhood between OIC member states,” by Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, who is heading a delegation comprising several ministry officials, as well as Morocco’s Consul General in Istanbul, Ibrahim Ajouli.
The Istanbul conference provides an opportunity to advance the shared objectives of Islamic countries, notably the harmonization of transport policies, enhancing governance of transport corridors, the acceleration of digitalization and ecological transition of the sector, as well as the institutionalization of transport cooperation between member states.
Participants are set to examine a number issues of common interest, including the development of transport corridors, the promotion of regional integration, the strengthening sector resilience, the digital and environmental transition, and cooperation in technical capacity building and the exchange of best practices among OIC countries.
According to the organizers, the transport sector and the interconnection of networks between member states are of major strategic importance for economic integration and achieving sustainable development, as well as for boosting trade and reinforcing intra-OIC cooperation.
They stressed that the establishment of safe, inclusive, resilient, and interconnected transport networks constitutes a key pillar for the prosperity of the OIC region, particularly amid the multidimensional challenges facing member states.
