The partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the European Union is distinguished by its depth, richness, strategic importance, and comprehensive nature, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, said on Thursday in Rabat.

Speaking at a joint press briefing with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, following their talks, Bourita stressed that His Majesty King Mohammed VI considers the partnership between Morocco and the European Union to be central and strategic.

In this context, Bourita recalled that His Majesty the King ensures that this partnership remains based on mutual respect and shared ambition, grounded in a common vision of challenges, emphasizing that the Royal High Guidelines constitute a fundamental pillar of the Kingdom’s foreign policy in its relations with the European Union.

The minister also noted that this partnership is built on the recognition of Morocco’s specific status as a reliable partner of the European Union, highlighting that relations between the two sides span more than half a century of close cooperation and mutual trust.

Bourita further welcomed the strong momentum characterizing bilateral relations, through the continued consolidation of the positive pace of their partnership. He pointed out that Kallas’s working visit to the Kingdom comes at a time when both parties are successfully working to intensify the bilateral agenda and strategic projects, barely two months after the 15th session of the Morocco-European Union Association Council held in Brussels, during which important commitments were made in several areas.

He also underlined that the talks with Kallas revealed a convergence of views on several issues, adding that discussions also focused on concrete measures for the development of a new strategic partnership document, which would serve as a framework governing relations in the coming years, with the ambition of elevating them to a higher level.

Furthermore, he noted that it was agreed to deepen cooperation within international and regional fora through a set of joint and concrete initiatives in the service of human rights, peace, security, and international stability.

The discussions also addressed ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination in the shared neighborhood, particularly in the Mediterranean, the Sahel, and the Atlantic space, Bourita added.

He concluded by stating that Morocco and the European Union aspire to further consolidate their strong partnership, noting that both sides uphold the same vision and shared values at regional and international levels, with a view to enhancing joint coordination in the service of peace, stability, and development in their geographical environment.
