Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch said on Wednesday that his government has reoriented public investment towards key social priorities, marking a deep transformation in the concept of citizenship through the expansion of social protection to around 15.5 million additional beneficiaries.
Presenting the government’s performance review before Parliament, Akhannouch noted that the State has covered more than MAD 27 billion in contributions for vulnerable populations under the “AMO Tadamon” scheme, while nearly 4 million families now benefit from direct social assistance based on improved targeting and governance mechanisms.
He added that total disbursements under this program reached approximately MAD 52 billion, benefiting 5.5 million children, over 396,000 widows and more than one million elderly persons.
On healthcare, Akhannouch highlighted a comprehensive reform aimed at rebuilding the system and restoring public trust, with the sector’s budget more than doubling from MAD 19.7 billion in 2021 to MAD 42.4 billion in 2026, alongside the upgrading of nearly 1,400 primary healthcare centers and the launch of further rehabilitation programs.
He also pointed to the ongoing rollout of University Hospital Centers across regions by 2027 to improve territorial equity in access to care.
In education, the Head of Government stressed the strategic importance of reform, noting that preschool enrollment has reached 80%, while the number of “pioneer schools” expanded significantly to over 4,600 institutions serving nearly two million students.
He further cited increased support for students, including boarding, transport and financial aid, as well as major reforms improving the status and salaries of education staff, benefiting hundreds of thousands of employees.
Akhannouch added that higher education capacity has expanded with new institutions and increased student services, alongside strengthened vocational training through new facilities.
Regarding purchasing power, he stated that the Government mobilized over MAD 135 billion through the compensation fund to stabilize prices, while social dialogue led to wage increases benefiting more than 4.2 million workers.
He also highlighted tax reforms, including income tax relief for lower salaries, and a housing assistance program that enabled over 96,000 families to access decent housing.
