The first Interactive Seminar of the Parliamentary Diplomacy and South-South Dialogue Platform for Africa opened Tuesday in Rabat with the participation of parliamentary delegations from several African countries.

Organized by the House of Councillors through July 4, the seminar seeks to strengthen African parliamentary cooperation, promote South-South dialogue, and share Morocco’s parliamentary experience in legislation, oversight, public policy evaluation, and parliamentary diplomacy.

Speaking at the opening, Speaker of the House of Councillors and President of the South-South Parliamentary Dialogue Forum, Mohamed Ould Errachid, said the event reflects Morocco’s strategic commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to bolstering South-South cooperation based on solidarity, mutual respect, expertise sharing, and partnerships that foster Africa’s development.

He stressed that parliamentary diplomacy has an increasingly important role to play in advancing African cooperation, defending common interests, strengthening institutional trust, and supporting development partnerships, particularly as the continent faces challenges related to security, sustainable development, food security, energy transition, climate change, migration, and institutional capacity-building.

For his part, President of Mali’s High Council of Territorial Communities Mamadou Satigui Diakité underlined the need to reinforce intra-African cooperation and capitalize on the continent’s human and natural resources to address shared socio-economic, security, and environmental challenges.

He described parliamentary diplomacy and South-South dialogue as essential drivers of peace and development, expressing appreciation for the continued support of His Majesty King Mohammed VI to Mali’s stability and development. He also commended the Sovereign’s Atlantic Initiative for Sahel countries and vision for strengthening South-South cooperation.

The seminar’s program includes presentations on the powers and functions of the House of Councillors, its legislative and oversight roles, communication mechanisms, and the use of audiovisual and information systems, alongside expert-led sessions on diplomacy, development, and public policy evaluation.
