Maghreb de Fès is one win away from winning the Moroccan league title for the first time in 41 years.
The Fès-based club will face Olympic Dcheira on Sunday. A victory will be enough to secure the championship without relying on any other result.
The title race shifted in Maghreb de Fès’ favor after AS FAR failed to beat COD Meknès, giving MAS full control of its destiny.
If MAS wins, it will lift the league trophy for the first time since 1985. The triumph would end one of the longest title droughts among Morocco’s biggest football clubs.
Maghreb de Fès is one of the country’s most historic teams. The club has a large fan base and has produced many players who have made a significant impact on Moroccan football.
The club also enjoyed one of the greatest years in its history in 2011. It won the Moroccan Throne Cup before lifting the CAF Confederation Cup and the CAF Super Cup in the same year.
Now, Maghreb de Fès is just 90 minutes away from adding another major chapter to its history. A win on Sunday would bring the league title back to Fès after more than four decades and give its supporters a moment they have waited years to celebrate.
