Morocco’s Ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, stressed on Thursday during the MAP Town Hall Washington that the relationship between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America is “the most enduring and most promising of our time.”
Speaking at the first international edition of MAP Town Hall, held on “Kingdom of Morocco – United States of America: From historic partnership to strategic alliance,” Amrani stressed that this multifaceted partnership stands out for its “unparalleled potential for growth, expansion, and depth.”
“While Morocco was the first country in the world to recognize the independence of the United States in 1777, and while the Treaty of Peace and Friendship remains the oldest unbroken agreement in American history, the true uniqueness of this relationship lies in its exceptional ability to renew itself without ever abandoning its foundations,” the diplomat noted.
In this regard, he emphasized that the Moroccan-American partnership transcends political alternations, geopolitical upheavals, and transformations in the international order, continuing to grow stronger by making trust its principal strategic asset.
In line with the High Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and thanks to the commitment of President Donald Trump, Morocco-U.S. relations are now experiencing a new phase of strategic acceleration, driven by increasing convergence in political, security, economic, and technological interests, Amrani said.
The ambassador stressed that the strength of an alliance should be measured not by the statements it inspires, but by the results it delivers.
In this respect, he recalled that Morocco remains the only African country linked to the United States through a Free Trade Agreement, that the African Lion military exercise has become the largest on the African continent, and that bilateral cooperation in intelligence and counterterrorism ranks among the most effective partnerships developed by Washington in Africa.
Amrani also noted that defense cooperation between the two countries “now constitutes one of the strongest pillars of our strategic partnership.”
“Beyond joint exercises and the exemplary political-military dialogue that unite our two countries, several major initiatives are expected to materialize in the coming months,” he revealed, adding that these initiatives will further confirm the unique, close, and forward-looking nature of military cooperation in all its dimensions.
Based on mutual trust, shared views on key security challenges, and a common ambition to contribute to regional stability, this cooperation fully illustrates the depth of the strategic partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States, noted the ambassador.
Amrani also highlighted Morocco’s role as a hub of stability, a trusted partner, and an anchor of balance at the crossroads of Africa, the Atlantic, and the Mediterranean, noting that this reality is opening a new generation of cooperation in strategic sectors such as defense industries, critical minerals, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, energy transition, and Atlantic infrastructure.
In this context, he underscored the Atlantic Initiative launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, describing it as the expression of a holistic vision in which security, development, and regional integration mutually reinforce one another.
The ambassador further welcomed the growing bipartisan support enjoyed by Morocco within the U.S. Congress. This trend, he stressed, reflects the emergence of a lasting strategic consensus regarding Morocco’s central role in the regional security architecture and in the United States’ partnership with Africa.
Addressing the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, the diplomat recalled that the U.S. recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara represented a major strategic turning point in the history of bilateral relations.
“Beyond its political significance, this decision reflects confidence in Morocco, its institutions, and its integrity, elevating the Kingdom both in terms of its full territorial legitimacy and its standing as a reliable ally, an indispensable partner, and a credible actor for regional stability,” he said.
In the same vein, Amrani called for the 250 years of exceptional Moroccan-American friendship to be framed within a renewed ambition, stressing that history explains the strength of this bilateral partnership, “but it is now a shared vision of the future that will determine its scope.”
“For two and a half centuries, Morocco and the United States have consistently chosen trust over uncertainty, action over rhetoric, and partnership over distance. It is this fidelity to a shared vision that makes our relationship not only one of the most enduring, but also one of the most promising of our time,” the ambassador concluded.
The first-ever international edition of MAP Town Hall in Washington comes at a time when the historic relations between Morocco and the United States are stepping into a new phase of strategic depth under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Donald Trump.
Featuring prominent political, diplomatic, academic, cultural, and media figures in Washington, as well as representatives of leading think tanks, this inaugural edition has explored, through panels and discussions, the past, present, and future of the strategic alliance linking Rabat and Washington.
