A Moroccan delegation stressed Friday in Accra the central role of youth in promoting peace, stability and development across Africa, calling for greater youth inclusion in governance processes during the 3rd African Union (AU) Reflection Forum on Unconstitutional Changes of Government.
Speaking at the forum, held on July 3-4 under the theme “Youth Inclusion for African Stability,” the Moroccan delegation described Africa’s youth as a strategic force for strengthening national cohesion and fostering sustainable development.
The delegation also underscored the role of the Pan African Youth Union as a continental platform for coordinating youth engagement in peacebuilding and development efforts.
Morocco further advocated a multidimensional approach to governance, reaffirming the relevance of the Peace, Security and Development nexus enshrined in the Tangier Declaration, and called for comprehensive support to countries undergoing political transitions while ensuring the continuity of AU operational programs benefiting citizens.
The delegation also emphasized the importance of sustained dialogue with countries in political transition, recalling the informal consultations organized under Morocco’s chairmanship of the AU Peace and Security Council in March 2025 and calling for their continuation to support lasting political transitions across the continent.
This edition of the Forum builds on the Accra Declaration of March 2022, which emphasized the importance of good governance, constitutionalism, socioeconomic inclusion, and preventive diplomacy, and called for enhanced coordination between the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) and the African Governance Architecture (AGA).
It also reaffirms AU’s zero-tolerance policy toward non-conventional armed groups, in accordance with the Accra and Malabo commitments, and aims to promote the active participation of youth and appropriate policies to combat these armed groups and support complex political transitions, thereby ensuring constitutional order, good governance, peace, stability, and prosperity on the African continent.
