Morocco and Serbia reaffirmed their strong commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in agriculture during talks held Friday in Belgrade between Serbia’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Dragan Glamočić, and Morocco’s Ambassador to Serbia, Omar Amghar.
During the meeting, the two officials explored ways and prospects for deepening cooperation in agriculture, food security, veterinary services, phytosanitary policy, investment, and trade in agri-food products.
On the occasion, Glamočić underscored the importance Serbia attaches to its longstanding friendship relations with the Kingdom of Morocco, highlighting the quality of bilateral ties, which are based on mutual trust, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and sustained political dialogue.
The two countries, he said, possess “significant complementary potential” in the agricultural sector, stressing that “these relations provide a solid foundation for further strengthening cooperation in agriculture and related fields.”
“Serbia has considerable capacities in crop production, fruit growing, livestock farming, seed production, and the agri-food industry, while Morocco has developed valuable expertise in irrigation, water resource management, fruit and vegetable production, and export-oriented agriculture,” he added.
In this regard, he expressed confidence that there is significant potential for a more intensive exchange of knowledge, technology, and best practices, as well as for expanding bilateral trade and investment.
For his part, Amghar reaffirmed Morocco’s determination to further energize bilateral cooperation, particularly at the institutional and economic levels, and to strengthen collaboration in areas of shared interest.
He noted that the Kingdom serves as an important gateway to African markets, while Serbia, thanks to its strategic geographic location, advanced agri-food industry, and network of free trade agreements, offers favorable conditions for investment cooperation and joint access to third-country markets.
The two sides also discussed opportunities to expand trade in agricultural and food products and to establish closer cooperation among the relevant institutions, scientific research organizations, and the private sector, while enhancing collaboration in phytosanitary and veterinary matters.
Particular attention was given to cooperation in agricultural innovation, smart irrigation systems, climate change adaptation, scientific research projects, and exchanges of expertise between the scientific and educational institutions of both countries.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Glamočić and Amghar stressed that deeper political dialogue and enhanced economic cooperation would create the conditions for a stronger bilateral partnership and pave the way for the implementation of concrete projects in agriculture, the agri-food sector, and rural development.
