Muslims in Canada will start fasting for Ramadan 2025 on Saturday, March 1, according to the Islamic Community Center (ICCl).

ICCL said the first day of Taraweeh is Friday, February 28. Taraweeh are extra prayers performed after isha in the evenings.

The website Statistique Canada estimates the number of Muslims in Canada at over 1.77 million.

Many countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Egypt, and Kuwait, have also announced Saturday as the first day of Ramadan.

The countries announced the news after the crescent moon sighting, announcing that the crescent was visible.

Muslims fast from dawn to sunset during Ramadan, abstaining from eating, drinking, and sexual activities.

Other countries, including Morocco, are expected to announce Sunday as the first day of Ramadan.

The North African country will announce the first day based on the sighting of the crescent moon.
