A Moroccan delegation took part on Thursday in the official ceremony marking the 131st edition of the Grand Magal in Touba (centre of Senegal), an annual celebration commemorating the exile of Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba Mbacké, founder of the Mouride brotherhood.
Led by the President of the Local Council of Ulema of Casablanca-Anfa, Hakim El Fadil El Idrissi, the Moroccan delegation was received by the Khalifa General of the Mourides, Serigne Mountakha Bassirou Mbacké, in the presence of the Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Morocco in Dakar, Mohamed Karim Halim.
In a statement to MAP, El Fadil El Idrissi emphasized that the Moroccan delegation’s participation reflects the Kingdom’s vision of openness to other African countries under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, and illustrates the depth of the spiritual and historical ties uniting Morocco and Senegal, particularly through major Sufi brotherhoods such as the Mouridiya orTijaniya.
On this occasion, he added, the Khalifa General expressed his unwavering attachment to the glorious Alaouite Throne and to His Majesty the King, Commander of the Faithful, while praying to the Almighty to safeguard the Sovereign and the Kingdom of Morocco.
For his part, the Khalifa General’s advisor for Arab and Islamic affairs Abdellah Mbacké expressed, on the name of the Khalifa General, his sincere appreciation to the Kingdom, while welcoming the presence of a large Moroccan delegation at this religious event.
This participation is part of the friendship and brotherhood relations linking Morocco and Senegal, he stressed, noting that the Khalifa General of the Mourides, Serigne Mountakha Bassirou Mbacké, highlighted, in this regard, the strong religious and spiritual bonds between the two brotherly countries.
The official ceremony of the 131st edition of the Grand Magal was attended by members of the Senegalese government, foreign delegations, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Dakar, and thousands of worshippers from Senegal and beyond.
Gathering 6.5 million pilgrims, the 2025 Grand Magal featured religious activities that reinforced the historic and spiritual significance of this major event in the Mouride calendar.
