The Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced the detection, on Thursday, of a confirmed case of monkeypox in Morocco, as part of the national epidemiological surveillance system.
In a statement, the Ministry said that this case had been detected under the health protocol in force in the Kingdom since the global health alert was launched, adding that the infected person, who had received the necessary care in a specialized medical center in the city of Marrakech, was in a stable condition that gave no cause for concern.
The patient is receiving the necessary health care, in accordance with current sanitary measures, and is undergoing careful medical monitoring to ensure that his condition remains stable, added the same source, noting that the necessary quarantine and medical monitoring protocols have been activated, in accordance with national and international health standards.
As soon as the results of the laboratory tests on the confirmed case were received, the national and regional public health emergency operations centers, together with rapid response teams, began epidemiological investigations of any contacts in order to monitor them and take preventive measures to prevent the spread of the virus, in accordance with national and international health safety standards, according to the same source.
The statement pointed out that no symptoms have yet been reported among contacts, adding that the Ministry will continue to communicate with the national public and keep it regularly informed of any developments in the epidemiological situation, as has been the case since the start of this global health alert.
The Ministry urges citizens to rely on official sources for accurate information, to avoid spreading rumors or unconfirmed information, and to observe the recommended preventive measures. These include regular hand-washing, abstaining from direct contact with people infected or suspected of being infected, and ensuring personal hygiene.
