The King’s Prosecutor General at the Court of Cassation and President of the Public Prosecutor’s Office Hicham Balaoui met on Monday in Rabat with Procurator General of the Republic of Austria Margit Wachberger, who is currently on a working visit to Morocco.
The meeting focused in particular on ways to bolster bilateral cooperation in the fight against organized and transnational crime and cybercrime, which require joint efforts.
Both parties also spoke of exchanging experiences regarding the functioning of the public prosecutor’s offices in both countries, particularly through expertise exchange and strengthening professional skills of public prosecutors in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to review developments in the national judicial system and to highlight Morocco’s experience regarding the independence of the judiciary in general, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office in particular.
It also provided a broad overview of the Kingdom’s judicial organization and various initiatives led by the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, particularly regarding the digitization of services.
In a statement to MAP, Balaoui noted that the meeting was an opportunity to explore ways of promoting cooperation between the Moroccan Public Prosecutor’s Office and its Austrian counterpart, while highlighting Morocco’s experience in the judicial field.
During the meeting, both sides agreed to organize exchange visits for Moroccan and Austrian judges to facilitate the sharing of experiences and best practices related to the fight against crime, he added.
The Procurator General of the Republic of Austria, Margit Wachberger, accompanied by a high-level delegation, is conducting a working visit to Morocco on April 26-28 as part of efforts to strengthen cooperative relations between the public prosecutor’s offices of the two countries.
