The King’s Prosecutor General at the Court of Cassation and President of the Public Prosecutor’s Office Hicham Balaoui, held talks on Tuesday in Rabat with the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Kamran Aliyev, who is on a working visit to Morocco.
During these talks, Balaoui outlined the reform projects undertaken by Morocco in the field of justice, particularly with regard to consolidating the independence of the judiciary as a strategic choice enshrined in the 2011 Constitution.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to reaffirm the Public Prosecution’s commitment to continuing its openness to comparative experiences and to strengthening international judicial cooperation, in order to support efforts to promote justice and consolidate the principles of independence, efficiency, and effectiveness in the protection of rights and freedoms.
Welcoming the level of friendship and cooperation relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Azerbaijan, both parties stressed the importance of elevating bilateral cooperation to higher levels through expanded coordination and the exchange of expertise in areas falling within the remit of the Public Prosecution.
They also called for the continuation of exchange visits between officials of the two countries, given their role in strengthening institutional cooperation and sharing expertise between the judicial institutions of both nations.
In a statement to MAP, Balaoui said that the discussions focused in particular on ways to strengthen cooperation between the Public Prosecution and its Azerbaijani counterpart, notably in combating crime in all its forms.
These talks also highlighted the evolution of the judicial system in Morocco and explored new prospects for judicial cooperation, he added.
For his part, Aliyev noted that the meeting provided an opportunity to examine ways to combat corruption and organized and transnational crime, scourges that require joint efforts.
Praising the “fruitful” level of judicial cooperation between the two countries, he expressed the shared will of both Public Prosecution offices to further strengthen cooperation in areas of common interest, noting that it was agreed to organize exchange visits for Moroccan and Azerbaijani magistrates.
The Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Kamran Aliyev, accompanied by a high-level delegation, is currently on a working visit to Morocco as part of efforts to strengthen judicial cooperation with the prosecution services of brotherly and friendly countries.
This visit aims to promote the exchange of expertise and best practices in areas of common interest, particularly in the modernization of Public Prosecution services and the development of international judicial cooperation mechanisms.
