Morocco’s national football team has jumped one spot in the latest FIFA rankings, moving up from the 14th to the 13th position.
With a total points of 1681.57, the Atlas Lions also retained their continental position — ranking as the top African team on the list.
Senegal comes second in Africa, followed by Egypt, Nigeria, Algeria, and Cote d’Ivoire.
This latest achievement comes after the Atlas Lions’ victories during recent qualifiers, including the Central African Republic.
The Atlas Lions won their last qualifier match against Central African Republic 4-0. They also dominated and impressively won their first qualifier earlier this month, beating the same opponent 5-0.
The national team were also victorious against Gabon in Septeber, winning the match 4-1.
Despite the dominance Morocco displayed in recent qualifiers, observers recognize that more efforts are needed as the Atlas Lions are gearing to take part in two prestigious events, both on the continental and international stages.
Moroccans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Morocco, hoping the team can secure the trophy at home.
Fans also aspire to see performances that match or surpass the prowess shown by the team during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where Morocco made history as the first Arab and African semifinalist in the competition.
Argentina tops the latest FIFA ranking issued today, while France comes second, followed by England, Brazil, and Belgium.
