Chile is determined to strengthen its ties with Morocco in various fields, particularly science and technology, Chilean Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alberto van Klaveren, said in Rabat on Tuesday.
At the opening of the Future Congress (December 17-18), hosted by the Moroccan Parliament, the Chilean top diplomat emphasized that Morocco and Chile share a common vision on the importance of science, technology, and innovation in effectively addressing global challenges that “directly impact our societies and require a collective solution.”
Scientific diplomacy and conferences such as Future Congress, held in collaboration with the Fondation des Rencontres du Futur and the Chilean Chamber of Deputies and Senate, provide invaluable opportunities to collaborate on key challenges, such as climate change, energy transition, sustainable trade and development cooperation, noted van Klaveren.
This event also reflects the two countries’ desire to strengthen their ties, which date back more than six decades, and their shared commitment to knowledge and innovation, he added.
In a highly interconnected world, the future and well-being of peoples depend on global and collective solutions to meet these challenges, the Chilean official added, noting that topics such as AI, gender equality, health, the preservation of water resources and food security will determine the future of societies.
The Minister explained that the Future Congress, held for the first time in the Kingdom, has focused its discussions on four technological revolutions: AI, genetic engineering, nanotechnology, and quantum computing. These cutting-edge fields, he noted, are “crucial for our scientific diplomacy and development, and require a strategic approach to our policies at both the national and international levels.”
The Vice-President of the Chilean Senate, Matias Walker, emphasized that Morocco and Chile can play a significant role in promoting peace and development worldwide within the context of the new global order.
Meanwhile, Karol Cariola, Speaker of the Chilean Chamber of Deputies, noted that since its inception, the Future Congress has offered a platform for exchanging ideas on global development and innovation, highlighting “our needs in this area.”
