The Moroccan national football team has retained its 14th position in the December 2024 FIFA World Rankings, published today. This ranking marks the end of the year for the global standings released by FIFA.
Morocco finished the year with 1688.18 points, dropping one spot compared to 2023, when the team was ranked 13th with 1661.69 points. In FIFA’s November ranking, the Atlas Lions dropped one position.
With its current ranking, Morocco continues to dominate African football, holding the first position for the third year in a row. The team is followed by Senegal (15th globally), Egypt (33rd), Algeria (37th), Nigeria (44th), Côte d’Ivoire (46th), Cameroon (49th), Mali (51st), and Tunisia (52nd).
Meanwhile, Argentina, the reigning World Cup champion, maintained its position as the top-ranked team globally. France, Spain, England, and Brazil round out the top five teams in the world rankings, respectively. The rest of the top 10 includes Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, and Uruguay.
Meanwhile, the Atlas Lionesses maintained their position among Africa’s top three teams in FIFA’s latest rankings, published last week. The team ranked 61st globally, down from their previous 59th position in August.
Hopes are high for both the national men’s and women’s team to achieve positive results in 2025 amid the stagnating rankings .
The upcoming year will feature key football events, including the mens’ and women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), both of which Morocco will host. The country will also host WAFCON 2026.
The 2025 AFCON will take place between December 21, 2025 and January 18, 2026. Meanwhile, the women’s tournament is set to take place between July 5 and 26, 2025.
