Moroccan pastry chef Youssef El Gatou set a new Guinness World Record on Wednesday by creating the world’s longest strawberry cake, measuring 121.88 meters.

The cake was assembled over 24 hours inside an ice rink in Argenteuil, near Paris, surpassing the previous 100.48-meter record set by Italian chefs in 2019. The feat was validated on site by official Guinness World Records adjudicators.

El Gatou, who lives in France, was supported by a team of Moroccan professionals and renowned French chefs, including Nicolas Bernardé, a recipient of the Meilleur Ouvrier de France title.

The 1.2-ton dessert required 4,000 eggs, 150 kilograms of sugar, 560 kilograms of cream, and 350 kilograms of strawberries, El Gatou told MAP.

Following the official announcement, portions of the cake were shared with the public—including members of the local Moroccan community—and distributed to retirement homes, a city hospital, the fire department, and the Red Cross.

El Gatou is no stranger to culinary challenges. In 2020, he crafted a 20-meter-long galette des rois, and in 2021, his bakery won second place in a regional best croissant competition.
