Morocco and the Republic of Cape Verde signed, on Thursday in Rabat, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of justice, as part of the strengthening of South-South cooperation.
The agreement, signed by Morocco’s Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, and his Cape Verdean peer, Joana Gomes Rosa Amado, follows the momentum of strengthening African partnerships in the field of justice, in line with the strategic Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
This MoU opens new bilateral cooperation prospects, by strengthening judiciary collaboration, administrative and technical mechanisms.
It aims to establish a structured framework for exchange and cooperation mainly focusing on building capacities and training judiciary personnel, exchanging judiciary information and analysis on judiciary reforms, sharing experiences and good practices with regard to mutual challenges, and organizing study visits, symposia and scientific meetings on the modernization of judiciary administration.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Ouahbi stressed that the signing of this memorandum was an important milestone in the building of a solid and ambitious partnership between Morocco and Cape Verde, particularly in the field of judiciary governance.
He explained that this agreement will enhance the respective expertise of the two countries and breathe new life into their cooperation, in keeping with the excellence of bilateral political relations, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the President of the Republic of Cape Verde, José Maria Pereira Neves.
This initiative is part of the Kingdom of Morocco’s ongoing commitment to deepening its ties with its African environment, strengthening its fraternal and historic relations with the countries of the continent, and continuing its policy of South-South cooperation, he noted.
For her part, Rosa Amado expressed her “deep satisfaction with the quality of the relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, which continue to strengthen in various fields, notably political, economic, cultural and judiciary.”
Hailing “the Kingdom of Morocco’s continuous commitment to developing and integrating Africa,” the Cape Verdean minister expressed “her country’s determination to fully profit from the Moroccan experience, recognized in terms of judiciary system reform and modernizing its structures.”
She said that “this agreement is part of a larger set of bilateral cooperation initiatives covering several strategic areas, including human rights, African cooperation and justice, with a shared ambition to raise these relations to a higher level of a structuring partnership.”
