German group “ZF LIFETEC,” a global leader in passive safety technologies for vehicle occupants, has recently inaugurated a new plant at the Tanger Med industrial platform, dedicated to the production of steering systems.
This state-of-the-art facility, covering an area of 8,000 square meters, represents a significant milestone in the group’s expansion within this strategic region at the crossroads of Europe and Africa, the company said in a press release, adding that production has already successfully commenced, and the plant currently employs around 300 people.
This new industrial unit is integrated into a dynamic ecosystem comprising more than 160 tier-1, tier-2, and tier-3 suppliers operating within the Tanger Automotive City zone, a benchmark platform for the automotive industry in Morocco. It also marks ZF LIFETEC’s 51st site worldwide, dedicated to manufacturing steering wheels for both local and European markets.
With this new facility, ZF LIFETEC further strengthens its position as a key player in passive safety systems, in line with its strategy of establishing proximity to its target markets and customers, the statement underlined.
The inauguration ceremony brought together representatives from Tanger Med, public authorities, and senior officials from ZF LIFETEC, reflecting the fruitful collaboration between institutional and industrial stakeholders.
“In line with our sustainability commitments, we aim to shorten supply chains and, wherever possible, produce directly in local markets. This is also a way to reduce risks,” said Rudolf Stark, CEO of ZF LIFETEC, quoted in the press release.
“The highly developed infrastructure of the Tanger Med industrial zone, the availability of qualified local talent, and the proximity to customers make Morocco a strategic choice for the group’s long-term investments,” he added.
